This renovation is all about the in between space: opening up indoors to enable a more outdoor lifestyle.
Internally, simple re-arrangements made space for a family of growing kids. New kitchen and re-arranged living areas opened up the house to connect inside to the new external spaces, and a renovated pool.
Externally the works reinvented an undersized, uncovered and (sometimes) flooding courtyard. This evolved into a new terrace. This ties the house to the yard, enabling the outdoor lifestyle the clients were seeking even during hot or rainy days.
The large covered space pushed the water (which flowed around the spaces during storms) further from the house.
The landscape design and detail evolved on site with Wernicks Landscape including with the Living Chandeliers as feature hanging gardens through the space, leading to the refinished pool. Raised edible gardens were added adjacent to the new kitchen.
New brick pavers were patterned to the entry courtyard of the home, interspersed with compacted aggregates with river gravel, with patches green landscape to soften the space.
The landscape was designed with John Mongard Landscape Architects
Build by Montalva Constructions
The clients completed the works in 2 stages over a number of years, to suit their evolving budget and family needs.
