We designed this prefabricated pavilion home, and assisted our client through the design and approvals process. The home is located on the Gold Coast Hinterland.
The home incorporates a series of sustainable features.
These include but are not limited to :
- Pavillion style design and construction allow the entire site to be used. Spaces between and below the pavillions are used rather than lost to fence lines.
- The home is designed to include solar hot water, and significant solar panels with addition of a battery array over time.
- One pavillion incorporates a Clivus Multrum composting toilet, where the others are fed to an advanced on site treatment system.
- External materials are left raw where possible to age with the site over time. The zincalume roof and wall cladding compliments the raw FC (clear finish by Resene) and Australian Hardwood feature battens. This raw pallete was designed to be softened iwth areas of linking hardwood decks and balustrades – which have evolved on site with the client over time.
It was designed to be flexible in use: whether as a single large home with up to 5 or 6 bedrooms for an extended family. Or a home with home office and guest accommodation.
It’s final incarnation is a B and B guest house with private rooms in separate pavilions: where you are able to stay and enjoy ocean views, and the natural beauty of the Ecovillage Highlands surrounds.
The project was delivered very quickly: the primary process from start of design to delivery of building on site, was completed roughly within 6 months. This included design through to the prefabrication process being substantially completed. Following the prefabrication, the client further developed the works on site. This included the addition of decks, landscaping and the like – the results of which are some of their completed photos here, and can be seen on stayz website (if you would like a holiday!)
The house comprises a central living pavilion, with 2 adjacent pavilions with 2 bedrooms each. Behind this main core is a much smaller 2 storey pavilion which was manufactured in 2 sections and craned onto site. This is a stand alone single bedroom pavilion with ocean views, over an indoor / outdoor living area.
We documented the home for manufacture and assisted the builder as required through that process.
The images and photographs for this project concentrate on the novel design and construction methodology
