Our client approached us to assist with their new hinterland home design.
The relocation, and home, were designed as a change of pace from their previous inner city Brisbane lifestyle.
Simple form – modern house design
The entry to the home invites visitors across a bridge, as the ground levels fall down into lush landscaping.
The main level enjoys views from living areas and bedrooms to Moreton Bay. This helps the owners appreciate the weather rolling in from the coast or the storms across the ocean, and the light changing across the landscape from sunrise.
The lower level is a dedicated artist studio, with space for visitors and family to enjoy privacy.
Recycled Materials and Furnishings
The use of recycled timbers internally adds warmth to the home design.
The timber adds contrast from the low maintenance steel claddings used externally. As well as being low maintenance (minimising painting on such a tall home) the cladding assists in protection of the home against potential bushfires.

The bathroom features a mix of warm hardwoods recycled feature, skylight for forest views and light.
Sustainable Home Features
The design included for solar power, solar hot water, an on site sewerage system, as well as provision for significant tank water storage and the like.
Process with the Clients
We assisted the clients with the design of the home. We also then managed the project for them through the documentation and approvals processes. Obtained pricing from builders for the client, we were able to assist them in controlling their costs on the project.
Our services included managing some of the challenges of the project including: bushfire requirements, construction on a steep site, town planning constraints, and the like. The design also tied into the significant existing vegetation on the site, with the location of the house being adjusted to suit mature native trees and to allow development by the client of lush gardens around the home.
