This home design functions for the client in the setting of an isolated farmhouse.

It needs to be self sufficient to the degree practical.  It is also unconstrained by typical suburban issues – such as privacy and neighbours noise.

The client originally approached us with the concept of a traditional suburban family home.  We re-imagined the design for the client.  We helped them to see a different lifestyle in their new setting which could (should?) be different to a suburban lifestyle.

Clients Brief versus What they Needed?

The ‘before’ and ‘after’ concepts are both attached, showing the evolution from the client’s original suburban brief through to the pavilion style home which we designed for them.

The client loves the new home and their kids enjoy the relaxed lifestyle which they can enjoy there in a very different way to that which they would have had in a traditional home.

Outdoor Lifestyle – Connected to Place

The central covered courtyard provides access between all pavilions.  It functions as the central living space of the home.

The kitchen includes a walk in larder to reduce the need for trips to shops and to allow on site produce to be stored long term.  It also included fire resistant construction with rooms in the house able, in case of emergency, to better protect occupants in case of a bushfire.

The design for the home included significant rainwater storage, solar power, solar hot water and on site sewerage to maximise the independence of the design of the farmhouse.
