This house is sited in the Ecovillage on the Gold Coast. The design was developed for clients who were relocating from Melbourne.
The home wraps around 3 sides of an open courtyard. This provides for private outlook from different rooms within the site, and views of the house from across court. The stepping roof theme of the design reflects the sloping site. The wrapping house also enjoys different views – from an ornamental pond at rear, down to the stone terrace adjacent to the living areas.
The house utilises recycled materials in subtle ways to reduce use of new resources. It also includes significant rainwater storage on site along with solar hot water and solar pv panels.
We assisted the client with this project from concept design through to completion of construction. This was including liaison with them in Brisbane and Melbourne through the process. We assisted with the management of the project on site, working with the builder to home completion.
We collaborated on the landscaping with a Landscape Architect. The owners are developing the gardens progressively towards the concept design.
This home was subsequently opened to the public for Sustainable House Day.
