We were approached by our clients to design this family retreat for them and their extended family.

The client had a specific brief for aspects of the design, which we were able to incorporate into an overall concept for them.  We provided guidance on how to enhance this to build a spacious family home, and managed the process to obtain approvals and pricing from builders to allow construction.

The client wanted the home to incorporate sustainable features.  We were pleased to design in for them significant tank water storage, on site sewerage, solar power and solar hot water, hydronic heating (in floor), incorporate significant thermal mass amongst other features.

The passive solar design principles employed ensure the house enjoys the warming winter sun but excludes the hot summer sun, and takes advantage of cooling breezes with strong cross ventilation.

The clients continue to develop the gardens around their rural retreat based on a concept of native plantings, edible gardens, and other themes which we developed in conjunction with a landscape architect.
