This timber and steel structure is located in Main Street, Mt Tamborine.
Mount Tamborine, in the Scenic Rim, is a picturesque area popular with tourists and local residents.
We were pleased to assist in the architectural design and documentation of this shelter as a focal point for public gathering, as part of the works.
Main Street at Mount Tamborine
is undergoing a substantial renovation of form and function. The overall landscape works are designed by John Mongard Landscape Architect.
As part of the scope of works, several picnic and other shelters were allocated to public zones along the street.
3d modelling and Rending of Proposal
The following rendering of the proposal illustrates the extent of works proposed. (3d rendering developed by Response Image)
Main Shelter: Zamia
Our involvement focused on developing the concept for the main shelter, to allow this to be documented with John Mongard, and constructed.
The main shelter included in the works is located outside the Zamia Theatre.
The Zamia Fern is a plant endemic to the local area. The architectural design of the structure is envisaged to reference the leaf form of a fern. It provides a focal point for gatherings, enhancing enjoyment for shaded and sheltered gatherings.
Layered Structure
The structure is designed to layer a mixture of materials, feathering at the edges, to achieve a softer and more organic form.
The simple form curves in plan, as well as elevation. This provides some challenges for documentation and fabrication. It also enhances the enjoyment of the space, by stepping away from the typical rigidity of a steel public structure.
Under Construction
The surrounding landscaping re-imagined Main Street, including; substantial surrounding landscaping works, lighting, stone walls, bench seating, paving, and planting.
